Child Sponsorship Program

How It works

When you choose to sponsor a child, you contribute an annual donation that covers the costs of meals, school supplies, and other essential needs. The program offers a simple and effective way to make a lasting difference in a child’s life.

In Kenya, every effort to nourish children matters

The lack of free public schools is just one piece of evidence of the State’s absence in society’s daily life. And when living below the poverty line—like 20.2 million people in Kenya, nearly 40% of the population—the cruel dilemma families face is having to choose between educating or feeding their children.

We created the Child Sponsorship Program to help the 150 children at Fizi Educational Center overcome food insecurity, which affects 1.8 million people in Kenya, including 900,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition and stunted growth.

The plight of these impoverished communities in Kenya is especially dire in Kabiria, located in Dagoretti, Nairobi—a region where many displaced people from neighbouring war-torn countries have sought refuge over the past decades.

Information from the European Commission confirms that “food insecurity is a major challenge for refugees in Kenya, which hosts hundreds of thousands of refugees from neighbouring countries” due to climate change, conflict, and poverty. As of last year, Kenya hosted nearly 800,000 refugees and asylum seekers, many of whom remain dependent on humanitarian aid even for their most basic needs.

Understanding the story of the school

When Jacob and Mashima, two Congolese refugees, founded Fizi School (formerly Grace School) in 2014, they aimed to create a space of education, nourishment, and shelter for children from families like theirs that had left everything behind.

When we first visited the school in 2022, its struggles were already immense. Most families could barely afford even symbolic tuition fees, and the school constantly struggled to feed the children and keep its doors open.

In 2025, the situation worsened: the escalation of a new conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo brought a fresh wave of refugees into the community. Many of these children—arriving from a background of war and unspeakable atrocities—are now new students at the school, which has grown from 100 to 150 children aged 3 to 11.

The funds raised through the Child Sponsorship Program will provide essential school meals—the primary reason vulnerable families send their children to Fizi Educational Center—as well as school supplies, uniforms, drinking water, and other essential needs. Your support will ensure a positive learning environment, allowing every student to thrive and pursue their dreams of a better future.
